Shutters have a reputation for being expensive, but they don't have to cost the earth. If a price from one of the big brands put you off, it's worth knowing there's another way to get well-made shutters for less.
Our answer is to start with Antigua, our entry-level range, and to buy from a company that prices honestly. On average, our quotes come in around 25% below the big national brands.
Where to start: Antigua
Antigua shutters are made from very sturdy MDF with a polypropylene coating. The coating protects the MDF and gives a smart finish that's quick and easy to wipe clean. They come in nine popular shades and five louvre sizes, and we can make them in most of our styles.
MDF is hardwearing, so Antigua is a sensible choice for busy family homes where furniture takes the odd knock. It works best on small and medium-sized windows in dry, well-ventilated rooms. For larger windows or unusual shapes, have a look at Cuba, which gives you real hardwood panels in an MDF frame at a good price.
Matching the material to the room
You don't need to spend more than you have to. A few simple rules help:
- Use MDF (Antigua or Bermuda) for living rooms, bedrooms and hallways.
- Save Java, our waterproof ABS, for the rooms that need it: bathrooms, kitchens and wet rooms.
- Keep hardwood for the windows where it really matters, such as large or awkwardly shaped ones.
How we keep prices fair
We charge by the square metre, so you pay for the windows you actually have. There's no inflated list price to discount and no haggling. We also use the same factory as some of the UK's best-known shutter brands, so you get the same standard of product for less. There's more in our price promise.
