Woodcraft Shutters

If you take one thing from this guide, make it this: buy from a company you can trust. We're a proud member of Checkatrade, and it's the first thing we'd tell anyone choosing shutters. They're a long-term investment in your home, so it's worth taking your time and asking a few questions before you decide.

Are they made to measure?

They should be. Made to measure isn't only about looks. It's what lets shutters open, close and tilt properly for years. After your home visit we carry out a detailed technical survey, so every shutter is made for your exact window and fits to the millimetre. Our own team does the fitting, so you deal with us from your first call to the final fitting.

Which style suits the window?

Style matters as much as material, so think about how you use the room:

  • Full height: the classic look, with total control over light and privacy.
  • Café style: covers the bottom half, so the top stays open to daylight.
  • Tier on tier: two sections that open separately, for flexible light and privacy.
  • Tracked: bi-fold or by-pass panels for patio doors, wardrobes and wide openings.
  • Shutter & Shade: an integrated blind that darkens the room, good for bedrooms and nurseries.

You can see them all on our shutter styles page. If you have a bay window or an unusual shape, check that the company can handle the angles.

Which material for which room?

MDF is hardwearing and suits busy family rooms. Waterproof ABS is made for bathrooms and kitchens, where steam and condensation are a problem. Hardwood is lighter, which helps on larger windows and special shapes. And if security matters to you, aluminium is intruder-resistant. Our materials page goes through each range.

How is the price worked out?

It's worth asking, because it isn't always obvious. We price by the square metre of your windows, with no inflated list price and nothing to haggle over.
